Successful Friday for internationals

The final international break of the year got off to a flying start for VfB’s players and their various countries.

Things could not have gone any better for the VfB players on international duty on Friday night, with five wins out of five. Germany found themselves pushed all the way in their World Cup 2026 qualifier in Luxembourg, but ran out eventual 2-0 winners thanks to a brace from former VfB strike Nick Woltemade. Jamie Leweling came on in the 79th minute, while Alexander Nübel was an unused substitute.

Morocco are set to host the Africa Cup of Nations starting in December, and they defeated Mozambique 1-0 in a friendly on Friday night. Bilal El Khannouss came off the bench in the 82nd minute.

Germany’s youth teams meanwhile had a field day. Finn Jeltsch was in the starting line-up for the U21s against Malta and played until the 66th minute, by which time his team were 4-0 up. The match finished in a 6-0 win, as was the case for Germany’s U20 side, with Noah Darvich and Max Herwerth in the starting XI. Their game against Romania was part of the U20 Elite League, with Darvich scoring from the penalty spot in the 86th minute.

Lazar Lovanovic opened the scoring in the 36th minute for Serbia’s U21s in their 2-1 friendly win over Czech Republic, before coming off at half-time.
