Skipper picks up three points

It was a successful start for Finn Jeltsch as captain of Germany’s U21 side, who won their opening Euro qualifier against Latvia. Chema Andres and Ermedin Demirovic were also in action at the end of the international break.

Despite his assist for the equaliser in the match against Austria, Ermedin Demirovic and his Bosnia and Herzegovina team-mates came away empty-handed from their 2026 World Cup qualifier, going down 2-1 in the end. It was their first defeat in five games in this campaign, but they remain top of Group H on 12 points. Demirovic played the full 90 minutes of the match.

Euro campaign kicks off with a win

Things could not have gone any better for Finn Jeltsch on Tuesday evening. After making his debut the previous Thursday for Germany U21s in the 2-0 friendly win over forthcoming Euro co-hosts Albania, the 19-year-old was once again in the starting line-up for the first qualifier against Latvia in Rostock – this time with the captain’s armband. Germany were good value for their comfortable 5-0 win, with Jeltsch playing the entire match.

Chema Andres and his Spanish U21 team-mates were also victorious in their qualifiers for the tournament, which will be held in Serbia and Albania in two years’ time. After the 3-0 win over Cyprus, the 20-year-old was on the pitch for the entirety of his side’s 3-1 victory against Kosovo.

Meanwhile, Lazar Jovanvic’s Serbia U21 side went down 3-1 to France in a friendly on Monday night, with the VfB forward playing 61 minutes. As one of the host nations for the final tournament in 2027, Serbia have already qualified.
