At our club, every fan matters - whether you’re cheering the team on from Stuttgart or supporting us from across the globe. We know that football is more than just a game; it’s a shared passion that connects people worldwide. That’s why we’ve launched #FanFriday, a special initiative designed to give our loyal international fans a platform to share their unique stories and grow their fan clubs. By celebrating our diverse and passionate community, we’re strengthening the bond that unites us all.
With 15 Official Fan Clubs (OFCs) outside of Germany, the red-hoop family reaches far beyond Baden-Württemberg’s borders. From Ohio to Brazil and Brussels to Singapore, VfB fans stay up late and wake up early just to cheer on our team. For this edition, we hear from a fan who’s been a dedicated OFC member since 2010.
What’s your name and where do you live?
Peter: “My name is Peter Haug and I’m from Omaha, Nebraska, in the USA.”
Which OFC do you belong to, and when was it established?
Peter: “I’m a member of the OFC ‘American Stuttgart Fans (VfB Omaha)’, which was founded in 2010.”
What’s your first memory of VfB?
Peter: “When I was 12, my grandpa (from Aidlingen) gave me the 1998/99 VfB home shirt as a gift. That’s when I became a VfB fan.”
Explain VfB to your neighbour in three words.
Peter: “Exciting, tradition, fans.”
Have you ever been to a VfB home game?
Peter: “The timing has yet to work out. But I would love to come and watch a game at the stadium.”
Have you attended a VfB match?
Peter: “Yes, the friendly against Hoffenheim in summer 2008. Back then, Cacau and Toni Da Silva scored the goals. It was an amazing experience.”
With whom and where do you usually watch VfB?
Peter: “I mostly watch the games at home with my family. When the timing works out, I watch with a group of people from our fan club at a local bar.”
What are your pre-match traditions?
Peter: “The matches are usually in the early morning. So, for me that means putting on my VfB shirt, making breakfast and coffee and the watching the game.”
Who is your favourite VfB men’s, women’s, or youth player in history?
Peter: “My favourite player is Cacau. He’s one of the greatest legends and an incredible player.”
Why should other football fans follow VfB?
Peter: “When at their best, the team plays in a beautiful way. The fans are some of the greatest in the world – they’re very passionate, proud and support their team no matter what. The club stands for social equality, sustainability and offers every fan a great football experience.”
