Brustring finals week

Eight days, three finals. VfB are the first club in the history of German football to reach three DFB Cup finals in the same season. Here’s an overview:

They say all good things come in three. The teams of VfB Stuttgart 1893 clearly think so – and have achieved something new in German football. For the first time ever, a club is represented in no fewer than three of the DFB Cup finals in one season. Not only are the VfB first team in the showpiece, but the boys’ U19 and girls’ U17 sides are also just one victory away from winning Germany’s premier cup competition. Three finals in eight days – an overview (all times CEST):

U19 // 22 May 2026, 17:00, Potsdam: VfB vs. VfL Wolfsburg

Tobias Rathgeb’s charges face VfL Wolfsburg at the Karl-Liebknecht-Stadion in Potsdam, bidding to bring the ‘mini’ DFB Cup back to Stuttgart for the fifth time after 1997, 2001, 2019 and 2022. “It’s going to be very special to lead the team out as captain,” said skipper Yanik Spalt. “The anticipation for the game is massive. We’ve won a lot of tight matches on the way to Potsdam and now we want to take the final step.”

First team // 23 May 2026, 20:00, Berlin: VfB vs. Bayern Munich

It’s the holders against the record winners as VfB contest their second consecutive DFB Cup final. “I’m very proud of our team’s achievement and mentality,” said captain Atakan Karazor, who was the first to lift the trophy into the Berlin night sky after the 4-2 win in the final against Arminia Bielefeld a year ago. “We won’t be the favourites this year but that doesn’t change our desire to want to achieve something great together with a top performance.”

U17 // 30 May 2026, 13:00, Cologne: VfB vs. Carl Zeiss Jena

A week later, on Saturday 30 May, the VfB U17s take part in the new girls’ DFB Cup final against FC Carl Zeiss Jena at 13:00 at Cologne’s Sportpark Höhenberg. “To get to the final in our first season in the DFB Cup means a lot to me,” said U17 captain Hanna Wachter. “It shows how much the hard work is paying off. I’m very proud of the team.”
