A quick quiz question: how many of VfB’s 999 Bundesliga home matches to date have ended goalless? The answer: there have been exactly 51 encounters in which the Stuttgart faithful haven’t seen any goals. On average, that’s only one in every 20.

Only one of the previous 999 Bundesliga home games has been abandoned. That was on 2 December 1967, when play was stopped in the 54th minute of the meeting between VfB and Borussia Neunkirchen because of thick fog, with the score at 0-0. Stuttgart won 2-1 in the replay two weeks later.

Former striker Mario Gomez has the honour of being the only player to have scored four goals in a VfB Bundesliga home match. It occurred on 9 May 2009 in a 4-1 win over VfL Wolfsburg. Hat-tricks for VfB players have been far more common – 36 times to be precise. Fritz Walter even did so three times, while Karl Allgöwer, Jürgen Klinsmann, Dan Corneliusson, Ioan Viorel Ganea, Kevin Kuranyi and Vedad Ibisevic all managed two hat-tricks on home turf.
