First game on the big stage

VfB Women are continuing their march towards with Bundesliga, and will host 1. FSV Mainz 05 in a top-of-the-table clash at the MHP Arena in March 2026.

The ambitious path VfB Women have successfully taken has led them from the fourth-tier ‘Oberliga Baden-Württemberg’ all the way to the Women’s Bundesliga 2. The next major milestone awaits in March 2026 when the team will play a home match at the MHP Arena for the very first time.

Their opponents will be league rivals 1. FSV Mainz 05, who they faced in a jaw-dropping game earlier in the season. After falling 4-0 behind away from home, VfB turned the match on its head to win 5-4. And it’s not just on the pitch that this showcase fixture promises plenty.

“Historic moment for women’s football at VfB”

“The home match at the MHP Arena is the logical next step for us and a historic moment for women’s football at VfB and throughout Baden-Württemberg,” said CEO Alexander Wehrle. “We want to encourage all VfB supporters, and all fans of the women’s game, to be part of this very special home fixture and to join us in sending a strong message about the growing importance of women’s football.”

“Our VfB women’s team have achieved a remarkable rise from the fourth tier to the second division in just three and a half years,” said board member for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth. “Their performances this season in the second tier have also been impressive. The game against an attractive opponent in Mainz in the final stretch of the campaign deserves to be played on Baden-Württemberg’s biggest football stage - our MHP Arena.”

Top-flight football the objective

“The path towards Bundesliga women’s football has been paved, and it remains our objective – even if we’re still a long way from the finish line,” said women’s football general manager Sascha Glass. “Being able to play our home game at the MHP Arena next spring sends out a powerful statement. We’ll do everything we can to make it a special occasion for VfB fans and for supporters of the women’s game across Germany.”
