An incredible number of people took part, with around 100,000 VfB fans having their say in the poll that was jointly run by airline partner SunExpress and the club, and getting to choose their favourite ‘VfBExpress’ design. ‘Homage to our hometown’ won through with 66.1 percent of the vote, ahead of ‘White and red’.
Official presentation in December
The next step will be to add the unique design to the aeroplane, and then in early December, the ‘VfBExpress’ is set to be officially unveiled at Stuttgart Airport before going into regular service across the SunExpress flight network.
“Many thanks to everyone who took part in voting – it was around 100,000 people, which is just sensational,” said Rouven Kasper, VfB Stuttgart’s chief marketing and sales officer. “Thank you as well to our partner SunExpress for this very special joint campaign, which has added a great deal to VfB’s international image. We are looking forward to December when an actual VfB aircraft will take to the skies for the first time in club history.”
“It is great how many fans took part in the ‘VfBExpress’ vote,” said SunExpress Chief Commercial Officer Helmut Wölfel. “This aeroplane will be a genuine source of pride for the fans as well as representing the close ties between SunExpress, VfB and the entire Stuttgart region across the skies. I can’t wait to see the Stuttgart horse take flight in the next few weeks.”
