As VfB Stuttgart celebrates 100 years of the famous red hoop, main sponsor LBBW is marking the special milestone throughout the season by taking part in activities and initiatives which celebrate the iconic club symbol, as well as the extraordinary history and rich tradition of the Cannstatt side.
At the forefront of the celebrations is the special-edition ‘100 years of the hoop’ VfB jersey, which will be worn in VfB’s opening Bundesliga home match of the 2025/26 season against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday 30 August. The game will take place 100 years to the day since the club introduced its uniform white and red kit, complete with the iconic red hoop. According to records, VfB first wore the shirt on 30 August 1925 in a friendly against Alemannia Worms.
LBBW is marking the special milestone – and its first Bundesliga home game as VfB’s main sponsor – by keeping its logo off the hoop, which is left untouched on the special-edition jersey. The LBBW logo, and indeed all other logos, are embroidered discreetly in tone-on-tone thread. LBBW will also use Saturday’s Bundesliga match to congratulate VfB Stuttgart, club members and VfB fans on the anniversary through the LED advertising hoardings at the MHP Arena, the ‘Stadion aktuell’ magazine and the club’s digital channels.
Alexander Wehrle, CEO of VfB Stuttgart: “One hundred years of the red hoop means 100 years of VfB Stuttgart’s distinctive, unique club symbol, as well as 100 years of solidarity, passion and love for the club. This coming Saturday, we have a special home game that we’re all really looking forward to. We’d like to say a big thank you to LBBW for their kind gesture. It’s a wonderful gift to VfB on the 100th anniversary of the red hoop.”
Rouven Kasper, VfB’s chief marketing and sales officer: “Apart from LBBW, we’d also like to thank equipment supplier JAKO, with whom we’ve once again managed to create an extraordinary jersey that captures the special anniversary of the red hoop perfectly. We also want to thank our premium partner and sleeve sponsor hep solar. The special-edition jersey fits seamlessly into this season’s collection and, like all our other shirts, makes a strong symbolic statement – a clear commitment to the city, the region and in particular our unique history at VfB.”
Verena Laich, LBBW’s head of sponsoring and events: “The hoop’s 100th anniversary is not just about a sporting symbol. It’s about identity, passion and togetherness that spans generations. LBBW’s home debut as VfB Stuttgart’s main sponsor is a special moment. We at LBBW want to let the hoop speak for itself and mark the 100th anniversary by leaving the hoop untouched.”
Tobias Röschl, director of marketing and sales at JAKO: “With our special-edition jersey for the hoop’s 100th anniversary, we’ve created a design that draws all attention to this unique symbol. That’s why we’ve deliberately left our JAKO logo in white. Visually, we’re taking a back seat to give the hoop the stage it deserves. By the same token, the high-quality embroidered badges and fabric with a special jacquard weave pattern give it an exclusive design and make the jersey really memorable.”
All you need to know about the special-edition jersey
The special-edition jersey focuses entirely on the red hoop, giving it the platform it deserves.
The base colour and all other elements of the shirt, such as the collar, the sleeves, the logos of the sponsors and equipment supplier JAKO, the Bundesliga logo and even the VfB crest, are kept in pure white as they take a back seat for this special anniversary. The crest and emblems have a high-quality embroidered feel.
