Jan Thielmann appointed financial director

The head of accounting at the German Football Association (DFB) will move to VfB Stuttgart in January 2026 to take over the financial department.

VfB Stuttgart has filled the vacancy of financial director with Jan Thielmann, who will take up his new role in January 2026. The 38-year-old financial expert succeeds Tobias Keller, who joined SV Wehen Wiesbaden on 1 July.

Thielmann has been with the German Football Association (DFB) since August 2019, operating as a corporate tax advisor before becoming head of accounting – who reports directly to treasurer Stephan Grunwald – in March 2022. He not only played a key role in the personnel and procedural restructuring of the financial department but also helped reduce the association’s structural deficit.

Competence, experience and personality

“In Jan Thielmann, VfB has found the perfect person for the financial director role,” said Alexander Wehrle, VfB Stuttgart CEO. “While at the DFB, he played a major role in the restructuring and continued development of the financial department. Jan brings the competence, experience and personality required for this demanding role at VfB, which he will begin in January. We’re delighted to have him on board at VfB Stuttgart and look forward to a successful collaboration.”
