Nathaniel Phillips is leaving VfB Stuttgart during the winter break and returning to Liverpool earlier than planned. The 22-year-old was originally set to remain with VfB until 30 June 2020, on loan from the defending Champions League winners.
With their squad currently stretched by injuries and a busy schedule, Liverpool asked to recall the centre-back from his loan spell. The two clubs have agreed, however, to look into the possibility of Phillips going back to Stuttgart at the end of the German winter break.
Phillips moved to VfB in August 2019 and made his debut on 12 August 2019 in the DFB Cup match away to Hansa Rostock. Since then the defender has gone on to make nine Bundesliga 2 appearances for the club and two in the DFB Cup.
