VfB legends honour themselves

One of the highlights of the ‚Tag des Brustrings‘ is the ‚Game of Legends‘, with former VfB players and coaches proving they still know how to play the game.

This Sunday’s ‘Tag des Brustrings‘ in and around the Mercedes-Benz Arena had many highlights on offer for the VfB fateful – one of which undoubtedly being the 'Game of Legends'! Players and coaches, who were responsible for some unforgettable games and title successes throughout the history of the Cannstatt club, took to the pitch in the Mercedes-Benz Arena at 15:00 CEST, to begin warming up.

Right from the outset, the former VfB stars showed they have not forgotten how to play the game since hanging up their boots – such as Franz Wohlfahrt, who showed he still has ideal positional sense, as he dealt with a shot from Kevin Kuranyi. Cacau and Fredi Bobic both proved they are still clinical finishers when in front of the opposition goal. On the side-lines, coaches Jürgen Sundermann, Christoph Daum, Felix Magath and Armin Veh pulled the strings and altered the tactics as necessary.

At the end of two twenty minute periods in the clash between Team White and Team Red, it was the side in the red Cannstatt shirts that came out as 3-2 winners. The result however was merely secondary – with reunions and fun in the foreground. "I am very proud to be here. It’s really great to see so many familiar, old faces. It is a very special day. VfB give a real feeling of belonging and family. No matter where you are in the world, you always have your fingers crossed for VfB," commented Jürgen Klinsmann.

Executive board member Thomas Hitzlsperger added: "I didn’t think I’d get the chance to play here again. That really is unique. The day got off to a great start on the ‚Museumshügel‘ at the Mercedes-Benz Museum. Many, many thanks to you all for coming along."
