“We were clinical up front”

Sebastian Hoeneß, Bilal El Khannouss and Ermedin Demirovic analyse VfB’s 4-1 win at Celtic.

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “The boys knew what was at stake today and produced a very concentrated, focused performance. We played in a very controlled way for long periods today and showed what we’ve been lacking in our away games in Europe this season – apart from the one in Deventer – which is clinical finishing. At the end we scored a very important goal to make the margin of victory that bit bigger. We deserved this win here today. We want to see it over the line next week and go through to the next round. But we won’t make the mistake of thinking that we’re already there. We need to be on our game again next week, and we’ll prepare accordingly.”

Bilal El Khannouss: “I’m very happy I could help the team with my two goals. Obviously I’m pleased to have scored, but I’m happier with the win. We played well today and deserved the victory. We head into the second leg full of confidence.”

Ermedin Demirovic: “This big win puts us in a very good position going into the second leg. It was a good team performance today. We defended really well together and were clinical up front.”
