500!

With the 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart became only the fourth Bundesliga club to notch up 500 home wins in Germany’s top-flight.

A figure for the VfB history books! On Friday evening, Hannes Wolf and his men celebrated a win over Borussia Dortmund, which was worth more than just the three points against a favoured opponent, but the 2-1 victory was also the Cannstatt Boy’s third successive win at the Mercedes-Benz Arena – marking the club’s 500th home success in the Bundesliga. VfB Stuttgart are thus just the fourth club to achieve that feat in Germany’s top-flight. The previous clubs to have achieved the 500 home win tally are FC Bayern Munich in 2005, SV Werder Bremen (2015) and Hamburger SV.

Strong team performance

The celebrations at the final whistle were expectedly extensive, as it had been ninety minutes of extremely hard work for the side led out by recovered captain Christian Gentner. After the game, coach Hannes Wolf paid "massive compliments on the performance" to his side, whilst Christian Gentner, who had been out of action for some nine weeks added: "The manner in which the team presented themselves in the second-half was exceptional. Everyone battled extremely hard and threw themselves into every challenge. We have a lot of young players in the team playing their first Bundesliga season – they did the job really well."
