Orel Mangala signs for Hamburger SV

VfB have released the 20-year-old midfielder for a one-year loan spell, without a purchase option, to second division Hamburger Sport-Verein.

The Belgian made the move to Stuttgart from RSC Anderlecht in the summer of 2017. Last season, Orel Mangala made 20 Bundesliga appearances in the shirt with the infamous red hoop. The Belgian Under 21 international possesses a valid contract with VfB until 2021.

VfB Sporting Director Michael Reschke:

"Orel is a player who could yet play a decisive role for VfB in the future. He is eager, willing to learn, strong in challenges and has a solid mind-set. He proved his potential during the pre-season programme – particularly in the friendly games against Basaksehir and Atlético. For a young player like him, match-practice is the most important currency, in order to develop ideally. Currently we have some very strong competition in his position and it would be difficult for him to get regular football. There were several clubs interested in purchasing him – but that was never an issue for us. When HSV came to us with their loan request, we sat together with Orel and discussed the complete situation. Orel then spoke to those responsible at HSV, Ralf Becker and Christian Titz. This one-year loan move is a sensible solution for all parties. We will be paying very diligent attention to Orel’s progress."
