"The defeat massively frustrates us"

On the day after the clash with Hertha BSC, Hannes Wolf analysed the match and categorised it accordingly. Timo Baumgartl and Julian Green return to training.

Hannes Wolf has experienced more relaxed evenings than the one following the Bundesliga opener away to Hertha BSC. "The night after a defeat never feels good. You tend to lie awake and go over the game in your head," explained the coach. Following Sunday’s regeneration session with the team, Wolf put the outcome into perspective and analysed the tie: "A lot of the content of our game was good, but there are a few things we want to do better. In the first-half, we lacked the courage somewhat on the attack to be more intensive and aggressive – that’s something we want to improve upon in the future. We never really displayed our abilities and tempo on the pitch. In the second-half, we played very well going forward and had four or five clear situations, but we unfortunately didn’t score. The defeat massively frustrates us."

With that in mind, Hannes Wolf considers it "too cheap" in discussing the situation which led to the 0-1, when his side were "not completely awake for just a moment" – something which will have a role to play with a view to preparing for next Saturday’s home game against FSV Mainz 05. "We need to be careful not to just pick out a couple of themes, but rather work on every element necessary in the decisive moments, to be that bit better than Mainz," stated the coach, adding: "Leading up to it and during the game, we will need the complete set. When you say that you could have defended that one situation in Berlin better, but forget three other important pieces of information, then it can’t work. We will look to build our way to the game constructively, fill it with energy and then give our all to ensure we keep all three points here."

When Hannes Wolf and his men begin the route to the game against Mainz, with two sessions on Tuesday, the duo of Timo Baumgartl and Julian Green will also be back amongst their team mates. Whilst Timo Baumgartl missed out on Saturday following the effects of a slight concussion, Julian Green was made unavailable by illness. Both were back with the team on Sunday and will begin full team training with the rest of the squad on Tuesday.
