Points shared in battling draw

Sasa Kalajdzic gave Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side the lead, but former VfB player Filip Kostic equalised straight away for Frankfurt.

Team news

Matarazzo made one change to his side following last week’s 5-1 victory over FC Schalke 04, with Tanguy Coulibaly coming into the team in place of Gonzalo Castro, who dropped to the bench.

Highlights
43rd minute Kostic’s cross from the left finds Andre Silva and the Portuguese striker gets a shot away, but it’s straight at Gregor Kobel, who makes a comfortable save.
55th minute Kostic puts the ball in the net with a low drive from the edge of the box, but the goal is disallowed following a VAR check for offside against Luka Jovic in the build-up.
68th minute Marc Oliver Kempf crosses into the area to Kalajdzic, whose shot takes a deflection off Frankfurt defender Martin Hinteregger and goes in to put VfB 1-0 up.
69th minute Kostic equalises for the home side almost immediately.
86th minute Jovic gets a dangerous header away following a corner, but Kobel is on hand to make a save.
90th minute +4 Kobel is alert once again in the final seconds of the game, showing superb reflexes to keep out Silva’s close-range shot.

Sasa Kalajdzic:

Overall we played well. We had a bit more control in our game in the first half, and after the break Frankfurt put us under pressure at times. We rode our luck one or two times. We can be pleased with the point.

Summary

Neither side gave an inch in the tackles, and they made life hard for each other in a tactically disciplined match. VfB’s lead was wiped out almost immediately – the boys from Cannstatt might have come away with more otherwise.
