Markus Weinzierl: “We played well from the fifth until the 68th minute. After falling behind early on to a goal we obviously shouldn’t have conceded, we showed a great reaction and scored a deserved equaliser. After that we looked more likely to score a second than Leipzig and squandered two good opportunities through Ozan Kabak shortly before half-time and Santiago Ascacibar just after the break. We then conceded a free-kick following a 50-50 challenge, allowing Leipzig to show their individual quality. That was another kick in the teeth. We conceded the third goal because we wanted too much - we wanted to equalise too quickly. We need to make sure we produce this type of performance for the whole 90 minutes and be more clinical in the coming weeks.”
Mario Gomez: “Today’s performance definitely gives us strength. We stood shoulder to shoulder with a very good opponent. We were aggressive at the back and created good opportunities up front. We need to keep playing like this in the coming weeks.”
Andreas Beck: “The reaction to falling behind was impressive. Leipzig didn’t have many opportunities, which makes the defeat all the more frustrating. We can’t be too harsh on ourselves today, everyone put their bodies on the line and fought hard.”
