VfB secured a narrow 1-0 away win at FC Augsburg on Sunday afternoon. During the tie, in which head-coach Tayfun Korkut’s men had the better of the chances, the only goal of the game was scored by Mario Gomez. With their first away win of the season, Christian Gentner & Co. afforded themselves some breathing space in the bottom third of the table.
Personnel
Tayfun Korkut made just one alteration to the side that began in last weekend’s home win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, with Holger Badstuber getting the nod ahead of Dennis Aogo in the starting eleven. In Erik Thommy, VfB also began with a winter signing who made the move from Augsburg to Stuttgart during the winter-break.

It was a highly-deserved win. We displayed exceptional character during the course of the game today. In the end though, we are very happy about this win.
Summed-up
On the day, VfB took a further important step towards top-flight survival. With tactical discipline and the necessary use of their chances, the Cannstatt Boys remain undefeated under new head-coach Tayfun Korkut (two wins, one draw). Had the Wasenelf managed to make more effective use of their counter-attacks, today’s win could have been decidedly more convincing.
