U19s win DFB Cup!

Tobias Rathgeb’s side beat VfL Wolfsburg 3-0 in front of a record crowd at the Karl-Liebknecht-Stadion in Potsdam to secure a fifth U19 DFB Cup triumph for VfB youth.

Match summary:

VfB Stuttgart’s U19s have won the DFB Cup for a fifth time, following on from the successes of 1997, 2001, 2019 and 2022. The team put on a clinical performance at the Karl-Liebknecht-Stadion in Potsdam to earn a deserved 3-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg in the final.

It was a hard-fought encounter from the get-go, but VfB were in a ruthless mood in front of goal and took the lead in the 22nd minute through Enis Redzepi.

Catovic doubles the advantage

Wolfsburg looked to reply straight away and had several set pieces as they increased the pressure on the boys from Cannstatt, but it was nevertheless VfB who scored again, with Mirza Catovic making it 2-0 on the half-hour mark to give his side a cushion at the interval.

Strong at the back, dangerous up front

The U19s remained solid after the break and hardly gave Wolfsburg any chances, with Florian Hellstern saving from two openings they did have. Neno Zezelj put the seal on the 3-0 victory in the 86th minute.

Goals:

0-1: 22nd minute: Zezelj finds Redzepi inside the box and he tucks the ball over the line.

0-2: 30th minute: A Tuncay Durna free-kick from the left sails into the penalty area. Catovic’s run is perfectly timed and he makes it 2-0.

0-3: 86th minute: Zezelj receives the ball on the right, and has time and space to bury the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.

Line-up:

Hellstern – Janjic (90' Jeggle), Schramm, Agzikara (84'. Di Benedetto), Knezevic, Catovic, Zezelj (90' Zarrella), Spalt © (84' Kempf), Tsigkas (84' Kroll-Thiel), Durna (72' Petrovskyi), Redzepi.
