“Take the euphoria with us”

Michael Wimmer speaks ahead of Saturday’s away match against Borussia Dortmund (kick-off 15:30 CEST).

VfB travel to Dortmund on Saturday afternoon on the back of two wins and 10 goals in their last two competitive outings. Interim coach Michael Wimmer knows that a “mammoth task” awaits his team against BVB this weekend. “Nevertheless, we want to show bravery and take the euphoria of the last two games with us,” added the 42-year-old, who will have to do without Josha Vagnoman once again. “Josha has been in full training since Thursday and has already done some passing and shooting drills. He’s making good progress. Daxo Zagadou also completed the full session on Thursday – we’re waiting for the final training session to decide on him.” Pascal Stenzel, meanwhile, is expected to miss out against his former club because of a cold.

BVB are currently eighth in the table with 16 points. “We’re going into the game with a bold and attacking approach, and at the same time we want to defend as a collective with good compactness,” said Wimmer. “The match at Dortmund is a special one for all of us – for the team and the coaching staff. We’re playing against a top team in front of over 80,00 fans. We’re looking forward to it.”
