Test period to begin with 8,000 spectators

VfB is planning to let 8,000 spectators into the Mercedes-Benz Arena to watch the match against SC Freiburg.

Based on recent political decisions, VfB has decided to kick off the six-week test period by allowing 8,000 spectators into the Mercedes-Benz Arena for the match against SC Freiburg.

“We are particularly pleased that there is going to be a test period designed to allow spectators back in the stadiums,” said sporting director Thomas Hitzlsperger on the return of fans to the Mercedes-Benz Arena. “It was always a priority for us that a solution should be found for the entire league that was as uniform and as fair as possible. Since we still had issues to clear up with the authorities until very recently, we’ve decided to play our home match against SC Freiburg this Saturday in front of around 8,000 spectators. We see this as the start of the six-week test period and that is why we have specifically decided not to go up to the maximum capacity. It is clear to everyone that we need to proceed cautiously rather than quickly. For our home match on 3 October against Bayer Leverkusen, we’re planning to have around 12,000 fans.”
