For Tayfun Korkut, this Sunday afternoon’s clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach (kick-off 15:30 CET), will be his debut as VfB head-coach in the Mercedes-Benz Arena. And the coach has left no overriding doubts as to who he wants to see leave the field of play as winners at the end of the ninety minutes. "We’re at home here – that’s our pitch! The opponent is not significant here," insisted the 43-year-old on Thursday, adding: "It’s always an advantage to have your own fans behind you. We want our spark from the pitch to ignite a flame in the terraces. We have an advantage here which we must make count."
Tayfun Korkut is convinced his men will turn his words into action this Sunday afternoon against Gladbach. "Every single player wants to play his part in our success. There is great spirit within the team. The players are very alert, focused and eager," explained the coach. With a couple of sessions to go ahead of Sunday’s game, currently it looks as though the head-coach and trainer-team will have almost the complete squad available for selection. Even Holger Badstuber has participated completely in every session since Sunday. "He has put in some really good work over the past few days," noted Tayfun Korkut.
The coach now wants to make use of the remaining training sessions, to reinforce the processes on the pitch and work on the team’s basic order: "We will be taking an active approach. We want to create chances on goal and make use of them to win the game," concluded Tayfun Korkut.
