“It was like a home game throughout”

The foundation for VfB Stuttgart’s win at Nürnberg was unity – both on the pitch and among the 10,000 visiting fans.

Marc-Oliver Kempf was in awe of the support from the VfB contingent in Nuremberg. “Our fans were unbelievable," said the 23-year-old after the deserved 2-0 win against ‘Der Club’.
"I’ve rarely seen so many fans go to an away match. They made it into a home game atmosphere.”

That feeling of unity carried over to the team and was one of the building blocks for an away win that was earned through togetherness and the irrepressible commitment of every individual player. “It was vital that the team played as a unit – I’m incredibly proud,” said Mario Gomez.

Youngest player of the Bundesliga season

VfB had another reason to celebrate on Saturday. Antonis Aidonis, who came on for Santiago Ascacibar in added time, became the first player born in this millennium to play for the club in the Bundesliga. The 17-year-old centre-back is also the youngest player to feature in the league so far this season. Aidonis, who moved to Stuttgart from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the summer, is now heading off on a ten-day training camp with the Germany Under-18 squad in Cyprus.
