The emotional season finale has been followed by a few days of rest and relaxation for the VfB players, before some of them join up with their national teams in the coming days. Left-back Borna Sosa is in the Croatia squad for their UEFA Nations League matches, which include a meeting with Austria and his VfB attacking partner Sasa Kalajdzic. Orel Mangala (Belgium) and Konstantinos Mavropanos (Greece) are also involved in the Nations League.
For Hiroki Ito, a senior international debut is on the cards. Together with Wataru Endo, he’s in the Japan squad for two friendly matches and the subsequent Kirin Cup semi-final. Meanwhile, Omar Marmoush and Egypt play African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea and Ethiopia.
Clinton Mola (England U21) also faces important qualification matches for the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
