On Friday evening, for the final time this season, the VfB players laced up their boots one last time, before they head off for a well-earned summer-break from Saturday. In the Robert-Schlienz-Stadion, the Cannstatt Boys participated in the season finish, presented by Krombacher, against a selection of players from the official VfB fan-clubs. A total of 20 White-Red fans were picked from countless hopefuls, to take on Daniel Ginczek & Co.
The result was naturally a secondary issue on the night, with the fans enthusiastically cheering on every action from the 19 men and one woman in action for the OFC-Selection. Matthias Geiger, for example, beat VfB keeper Jens Grahl with an impressive strike. Wasenelf team-captain Christian Gentner pushed his side technically and tactically as ever though, leading them to a 10-1 advantage shortly before the finish, when Daniel Ginczek then swapped positions with Timo Baumgartl. In the closing phase, the OFC-Selection mobilised their remaining energy and reduced the final score-line to 3-10, thanks to goals from Marco Pflitzer and again Matthias Geiger.
On the side-lines, mascot Firtzle ensured the best possible atmosphere was maintained, whilst the players put smiles on many a face, taking time to stop for a brief chat and an autograph.
