VfB Stuttgart and Hannes Wolf part company

Following intensive discussions yesterday evening, which continued on late into the night as the current sporting situation was analysed, the decision was made that Hannes Wolf would no longer continue as head-coach of VfB Stuttgart. Hannes Wolf bid his farewells to the team on Sunday morning at the 'VfB Clubzentrum'.

A decision on a successor and who will coach the team in Wolfsburg next weekend will be made in the next few days.

Today’s training will be held by goalkeeper-trainer Marco Langner, athletc-trainer Matthias Schiffers and individual-trainer Andreas Schumacher. Co-trainer Miguel Moreira is to leave VfB together with Hannes Wolf.

Sporting Director Michael Reschke:
"
Following yesterday’s game, we held very intensive and emotional talks with Hannes and we analysed the situation very extensively. We firmly believe that the danger that the current situation cannot be turned around in the current constellation is too great and that we need a new impulse to get back onto a more successful track. None of us wanted to be in this situation and we would very much liked to have continued working with Hannes, because he is an exceptional coach and a wonderful character. Hannes and Miguel have served VfB exceptionally well with the promotion and the work they have done during the current season. We wish both of them all the very best for their personal and professional futures."

Hannes Wolf:
"Miguel and I are very grateful for almost a year and a half of unbelievably intensive and mostly wonderful times at VfB. We received amazing support from the fans, the VfB employees and the team. Experiencing VfB’s route back to the Bundesliga and May 21st, 2017 will forever remain unforgettable. We also considered ourselves to be on a good road this season. Unfortunately, in the past few weeks, neither the results nor the performances were good enough. For that reason, openly and respectfully with those in charge at the club, we came to the conclusion that we must end our cooperation. Miguel and I wish VfB Stuttgart, the staff and the fans all the very best and we’ll have our fingers crossed for what’s to come."

VfB President and Chairman of the Supervisory Committee Wolfgang Dietrich:
"This is a development that nobody wanted and we are duly all very disappointed. Hannes Wolf has done some exceptional work for VfB Stuttgart over the past 17 months. Recently though, we were all agreed that things could not continue as they have done. Us, as those responsible at the club, and him as coach lacked the belief that the situation could be corrected. In the name of VfB and also from me personally, would like to thank Hannes for the time we had together and the highlight of the promotion, which remains unforgettable."
