Numbers Game

The Bundesliga takes a break to allow for a round of international games for the third time this season. Here’s a look at some interesting figures after eleven match-days.

33 – VfB head-coach Hannes Wolf has used his complete quota of substitutes in all eleven games so far this season. The players coming off the bench to play a part most often were Josip Brekalo and Takuma Asano (four). The man substituted out most often was Chadrac Akolo (seven).

23 – VfB have used 23 players so far this season – eleven of whom made their Bundesliga debuts during the current campaign.

990 – From the 23 players involved, just two have not missed a single minute of action. Ron-Robert Zieler and Benjamin Pavard were in the starting eleven for every match and played for the duration each time.

5 – VfB have scored the bulk of their goals this season between the 31st and 45th minute. The remaining goals were spread out as follows: two goals (46th -60th minute); one goal (61st -75th minute); two goals (76th – 90th minute)

6 – From the 23 players to have made an appearance, six got their names on the score-sheet. The most successful VfB goal-scorer thus far has been Chadrac Akolo, with three goals.

0 – Bad zero, good zero: As much as the figure hurts in relation to VfB’s away efforts thus far, it’s a far more positive number at home. In five home outings, The Cannstatt Boys won four and drew one. VfB remain unbeaten in the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

499 – The number of home wins logged by VfB in their Bundesliga history. The side in the shirts with the infamous red hoop are participating in the 52nd season in Germany’s top-flight. In that time they have played 870 Bundesliga games and boast a goal-difference of 1759:969.
