City derby in the GAZi-Stadion

On Sunday, July 9th, 2017, VfB play a friendly test at Stuttgarter Kickers. Kick-off is set for 17:00 CET.

A further test friendly has been arranged as part of the pre-season preparations. On July 9th, VfB Stuttgart will be in action at the 'GAZi-Stadion auf der Waldau' for the city derby against Stuttgarter Kickers. Kick-off for the clash of the local rivals is set for 17:00 CET.

The match was made possible greatly thanks to the efforts of Dr. Eduardo Garcia, who as proprietor and managing director of the company Garmo AG, actively supports both Stuttgarter Kickers and VfB Stuttgart.

The pre-season calendar for coach Hannes Wolf’s men is becoming ever fuller. Alongside clashes with SG Dynamo Dresden (July 12th, 18:00 CET, Sportpark in Heimstetten near Munich) and the Max Liebhaber-Cup at 1. FC Heidenheim (July 22nd, 16:00 CET, Voith-Arena), the city derby clash with Stuttgarter Kickers has also been scheduled.

The last clash of the two sides took place four months ago. On February 2nd, VfB were 4-0 winners in a game which was closed to the public, held on the VfB club grounds.
The goals for the later second division champions were scored by Takuma Asano (19’), Simon Terodde (55’), Alexandru Maxim (70’) and Julian Green (88’).

The last meeting of the two teams at the ‚GAZi-Stadion auf der Waldau‘ dates back to 2013. Then, on July 6th, VfB and Kickers played out their 166-city derby, as they prepared themselves for the 2013/2014 campaign.

On that occasion, the side in the shirts with the infamous red hoop were ultimate 2-0 winners. Both goals on the day were scored by Vedad Ibisevic.
