Preparing for a new chapter

Santiago Ascacibar has been through a great deal in the past few days. Having signed his new contract and participated in his first training session, the Argentine clarified the final formalities.

For Santiago Ascacibar, a whole new chapter in his football career was started in the past few days: The 20-year-old left his home club of Estudiantes de La Plata in eastern Argentina, with the hope of making a name for himself at VfB in the south of Germany. And the move has meant a number of eventful days for the midfielder: On Tuesday afternoon, the new man signed his contract at the VfB administrative offices on Mercedesstraße, to complete his move. Shortly afterwards he took to the pitch with prevention and rehabilitation trainer Frank Haile and then went through his first individual training session in his new home.

That premiere was followed by another on Wednesday afternoon: For the first time, Santiago Ascacibar participated in a training session with his new team mates. There were a lot of new impressions for the 20-year-old to take on board in a very short space of time – but there’s little time for a breather either! Later on Wednesday afternoon, the midfield man, who will wear the number 6 jersey in Stuttgart, caught a flight back home to Argentina, in order to clarify the final formalities for a permanent residency in Germany. The new man is expected by in Cannstatt at the end of this week, when the new chapter in his career will begin in earnest – which will hopefully be a long and successful stay with VfB.
