A little more responsibility

Three days after their home win over Wolfsburg, VfB face an away task in Mönchengladbach. The Cannstatt Boys must compensate for the absence of their captain.

On Monday afternoon, 19 VfB players were on board for the trip to Mönchengladbach, where they will face hosts Borussia on Tuesday evening (18:30 CET). It will be the first game for the Cannstatt Boys without their captain Christian Gentner. The 32-year-old is just one of a number of players unavailable to coach Hannes Wolf for the midweek clash. "For the fit players, it will be all about being that bit sharper. Every individual needs to take on a little more responsibility," insisted the coach at the pre-match press conference on Monday.

With all of the injury worries, there was some positive news in that Chadrac Akolo was amongst the 19 players making the trip to the Lower-Rhine region. The attacker was on target in each of VfB’s last two games and was vital in VfB claiming all three points for the second time in their second home game of the season. "The chances of him playing are quite good," stated Hannes Wolf. A further injured player, who will not be an option in Gladbach, is however making steady progress: Holger Badstuber. The central-defender was back in training with his team mates again on Monday. "The game in Mönchengladbach comes a little too early for him. He needs more training with the team, challenges and shooting practice," noted the VfB coach.

The Wasenelf will have their work cut out for them this Tuesday evening. "Gladbach have a lot of quality in their side. We’ll have to defend at the very highest level and approach the task with courage, intensity and pace," concluded the VfB head coach.
