On June 25th 1950, a 2-1 win over Kickers Offenbach in the final at the Olympia Stadium in Berlin saw VfB Stuttgart claim the 'Viktoria' - as the championship trophy was named after her predecessor was lost in the war - for the first time in the club's history. 90,000 spectators cheered on first half goals by Erwin Läpple and Walter Bühle. Horst Buhtz snatched a goal back for Offenbach during the second period but VfB trainer Georg Wurzer's side defended stoutly to hold onto their lead. The following day, the team and captain Otto Schmid were welcomed back in Stuttgart by an estimated crowd of 300,000 fans.
