Confidence and caution

Despite the fact that VfB have a solid and positive record of four wins and one draw from recent Bundesliga outings, head coach Christian Gross sees no reason for any sort of euphoric outbreak: "January was a positive month, but we are in February now and every game has a dramatic all of its own. We must do all in our power to put on a positive display against Nürnberg," said the coach, looking ahead to this Saturday evening's away trip to one of this season's promoted sides, 1. FC Nürnberg.

"Mighty competition for places"

So far as his personnel situation is concerned, Christian Gross has almost his complete squad to choose from. Since the beginning of this week, team captain Matthieu Delpierre has been back in full team training, and the Frenchman even put in an extra shift on Thursday morning: "If he's fit, he will play," said Christian Gross. Cacau, on the other hand, is still doubtful and Martin Lanig is still in therapeutic training following his cruciate ligament tear. Arthur Boka has claimed he is fit and ready to play, on which Gross explained: "The competition for places is mighty! We have a strong and evenly balanced squad."

Confident

"On the whole, we are braver than we were a few weeks ago," commented the VfB coach, and he added: "I have nothing more than survival in the top flight on my mind at this moment in time. It will be a very difficult game."
