Thomas Schneider is new head-coach

The 40-year-old from within VfB’s own ranks has signed a two-year deal. Alfons Higl and Tomislav Maric will provide support as his trainer team.

Thomas Schneider is the new head-coach at VfB Stuttgart. The 40-year-old takes over the position with immediate effect and has signed a two-year deal.

In addition, Alfons Higl and Tomislav Maric join Schneider as new members of the coaching staff. Thomas Schneider has been in charge of the club’s ‘Under 17’ team since 2011/2012 and won the ‘B-Junioren’ championship in his first year at the club.

At the age of just 10, Thomas Schneider began playing in VfB youth teams, making his way through the ranks to make his professional debut in the 1991/1992 season – winning two championships with the ‘Under 19’s’ along the way. As a full professional, Schneider appeared in the Bundesliga for VfB 133 times – as a league champion in 1992 and a DFB-Cup winner in 1997.

At the end of his active playing career, he moved on to the ‘Bayernliga’ from 2007 until 2009, initially in charge of the ‘Under 19’s’ until he was made first team trainer for the remainder of the 2009/2010 campaign.

In March 2011, Schneider finished the 57th coaching seminar as second best in his class at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy in Cologne before returning to VfB.
