VfB sign Karim Haggui

On the final day of the summer transfer period, the former Hannover central defender signed a two-year deal with an option to extend by a further year.

1,90 meters tall and weighing in at 86 kgs - Karim Haggui has the ideal physique for a centre-half. The defensive specialist makes the move to Stuttgart with immediate effect. The Tunisian international comes from Hannover 96 and has signed a two-year deal at VfB, with an option to extend for a further year. The details of the deal remain undisclosed.

"Following the departure of Serdar Tasci and the injury forced absence of Georg Niedermeier, we wanted to strengthen the defence,“ explained VfB Sport Manager Fredi Bobic: "Karim has masses of experience – both in the Bundesliga as well as on the international circuit. We hope that he can integrate here with us quickly and prove to strengthen our squad".

In the Tunisian national team, 29-year-old Haggui has gathered an impressive 80 caps, in the African Cup of Nations, at World Cups and at the Olympic Games – scoring four goals for his country along the way. At VfB, the new man will wear the number 5 shirt. VfB wish Karim Haggui a very warm welcome and all the very best for his time in Stuttgart.

Karim Haggui commented on the move to VfB: "I am very happy to be a VfB player. For me, VfB is a great club, one of the biggest in Germany and a club with great history. I think there are many footballers who dream of playing here. I am delighted that I now have the opportunity to play for VfB”.
