On Tuesday afternoon, new signings Tunay Torun and Tim Hoogland were officially presented. “We are convinced that we have made two really good catches with these two lads and they fit into our team well as characters too,” emphasized Director of Sport Fredi Bobic at the start of the press conference. www.vfb.de spoke separately with Tim Hoogland.

Torun und Hoogland during the first training session
Hello Tim, Following your arrival in Stuttgart with the train on Monday you went straight for your medical examination and then on to sign your contract. What is your first impression?
Tim Hoogland: “Positive throughout! I was warmly welcomed immediately on Monday and got a look at all the facilities. I am very happy to be here and I’m looking forward to playing for VfB.”
You were out through injury for a long period and only played three Bundesliga games for Schalke last season. What are you expecting from your move to Stuttgart?
Tim Hoogland: “Last season didn’t go so well – first being injured and then having to battle my way back. I was in training with Schalke for the second half of the season though and took part in every session. At 27, I want to play as many games as possible. When I heard that VfB were interested in having me, I wanted to grasp the chance immediately. For me, VfB Stuttgart is one of the biggest clubs in Germany. That’s why I’m so happy the transfer went through.”

How much was your decision to come here affected by the way VfB play football under Bruno Labbadia?
Tim Hoogland: “In the games from last season you could see that putting pressure on the ball is very important for VfB. Hunting down my opponent and winning possession is something that suits me personally. Quickly switching the play having won possession is something I know from my time in Mainz, which was a very important period for me. For that reason, Bruno Labbadia’s style of play did influence my decision.”
What do you think of VfB’s chances in the coming season?
Tim Hoogland: “There is an enormous amount of potential within the team, which could be seen last season. I think the team will finish in the top half of the table again this year. We really should finish in a good position in the table.”
