VfB head coach Markus Babbel: "That was a very disappointing performance again today - just as disappointing as the final result. Once again today we made mistakes much too easily. The second goal was symptomatic of that - it was clear to see that we just don't have our heads clear at the moment. Throughout the game we never managed to find any way of putting Bremen under pressure. I'm expecting a very clear reaction from my team in the game against Schalke."
VfB striker Cacau: "We wanted to present ourselves in a better light today and put on a good performance but Bremen took the lead early and also played very well. We did everything we possibly could then and had good chances to equalise in the first half but it just wasn't to be. That's really bitter for us! We had such high hopes and find ourselves now in a very difficult situation once again."
VfB striker Julian Schieber: "We wanted to play attacking football but the two goals for Werder early in each half really knocked us out of our stride. We will really need to get back to winning ways in the game against Schalke."
