Niedermeier staying put
Georg Niedermeier has signed a contract with VfB Stuttgart to bind him to the club until June 30th 2014. The decision means that the central defender has committed his future to Stuttgart, having initially been taken to the club on loan from FC Bayern Munich. In January 2009 the 23 year old arrived from the FCB reserves with a loan agreement until June 2010.
First Bundesliga goal against BVB
The 1,89 meter tall defensive specialist made his debut in the jersey with the red chest ring on March 1st 2009 in an away clash with Karlsruher SC. The season Niedermeier has made nine Bundesliga appearances thus far for VfB. The defender scored his first Bundesliga goal for VfB in a 1-1 draw against Dortmund.
Georg Niedermeier spoke to www.vfb.de:
Georg, your signature today binds you now to VfB Stuttgart for four more years. What were the main reasons behind you taking this step?
Georg Niedermeier: "It was a realistic option for me because by now I have become a part of the team and feel quite at home in Stuttgart. I'm very happy now to have absolute certainty."
You came to VfB from FC Bayern Munich in January 2009. How has your year in Stuttgart been?
Georg Niedermeier: "By now I know my way around Stuttgart very well - in fact, better than some of my team mates who live a little further outside of the city because I live in the city centre. I spend a lot of time in the city and sometimes go to good restaurants or the cinema. When Thomas Hitzlsperger was still at the club we sometimes hit the town together. I'm really happy that Martin Lanig is returning from injury. I'll be taking the opportunity to go and eat with him from time to time."
