Niedermeier signed on loan deal
Shortly before the January transfer window closes, VfB managed to strengthen their squad yet further. Defender Georg Niedermeier was signed from the Bayern Munich reserves on a one and a half year loan deal. The 22 year old central defender made 18 appearances in the third division for trainer Hermann Gerland's side and after the signing of the contract with spoke to Georg Niedermeier.
Georg, welcome to Stuttgart. Did you just arrive today or were you here for the cup match on Tuesday?
Georg Niedermeier: "I actually just got up very early this morning and made my way to Stuttgart."
And, are you looking forward to the new challenge?
Georg Niedermeier: "Sure, it's a super chance for me. I have a year and a half in perfect surroundings in Stuttgart to prove myself at the highest level and develop as a player. That's why I decided to take this step."
Was the move made by Philipp Lahm a few years ago an inspiration for you to do the same thing?
Georg Niedermeier: "Of course, also because we have the same agent. I know that everything is in order here in Stuttgart and I have been given a massive opportunity. I intend to use it!!"
VfB have been eliminated from the DFB Cup and await title holders Zenit St. Petersburg in the UEFA Cup. In the Bundesliga Stuttgart are back in tenth place. What do you believe your new club can achieve this season?
Georg Niedermeier: "The cup defeat was a one-off, a dark day - that can always happen! I'm quite convinced that the team will show a reaction to that and I firmly believe anything is possible."
